This Mama Loggerhead Sea Turtle is taking her time returning to the ocean. A full grown sea turtle can weigh up to 400 lbs, taking a lot of energy with flaps not designed for rapid land movement.
It is not common to spot sea turtles laying eggs in daylight as they are shy and will even return to the ocean immediately when they spot danger. Sea Turtle can be found along all the beaches on Hilton Head Island, and they appear to have no specific preference for any beach.
The Sea Turtle Patrol will register and count all the nests. Leave the Sea Turtles alone, watch from afar, and stay away in accordance with the strict regulations on Hilton Head Island.
