Captain Dave Fleming has 30 years of guiding experience and has called the island home for 40 years. Thousands of anglers have enjoyed his southern charm and fishing prowess. There is no fleet of boats, just the one that has been meticulously maintained since 1991. The Mighty Mako is a custom-built 25-foot center console designed with fishing in mind. It has more square feet of fishing space than many boats twice its size. This space allows maximum comfort, while its stability and low freeboard allow for easier management of large game fish. With a beam of 9 feet and a draft of 10 inches, plus 360 degrees of fishability, the Mighty Mako has all the benefits of a backwater flats boat without sacrificing comfort, spaciousness, and safety.
Dave especially enjoys introducing children to the joys of fishing. I instruct them on the fundamentals and teach them the proper angling techniques. I answer all questions with enthusiasm and describe the delicate ecosystem.
The Mighty Mako fishes out of Palmetto Bay Marina. Tucked away on the southern tip of Hilton Head, Palmetto Bay was the first Marina built on the island back in 1958, and it is home to the island’s “original” fishing fleet. Fast-forward half a century, and the marina now boasts the only working boatyard on the island, as well as several other amenities and attractions, such as dining, shopping, and water sport activities for locals and vacationers alike.
