In this closeup video you can clearly see a starfish move through the pulsation of its tube tentacles. About 1,900 species of starfish exist and see a few different types on our beaches. Many species are brightly coloured in various shades of red or orange, while others are blue, grey or brown.
Most can regenerate damaged parts or lost arms and they can shed arms as a means of defense. The fossil record for starfish dates back to around 450 million years ago. They, too, were here before the human species arrived on earth. Leave them where you found them.
