Greens Shell Park

Save to itinerary on this device:

Greens Shell Park consists of the Greens Shell Enclosure, a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Cultural Heritage Preserve consisting of a semicircular ridge of shell approximately 20-30 feet wide at the base and four feet tall. The ridge was primarily constructed of oyster shell during the Mississippian period (AD 1000-1500). It is one of the few undisturbed shell structures in coastal South Carolina and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Greens Shell Park is a great neighborhood park with a hidden cultural element. Located off Squire Pope Road, it provides a picnic pavilion, playground, basketball court, restroom facilities, and small parking areas scattered among impressive mature trees. The park is adjacent to Amelia White Historic Gullah Cemetery.
